Fallen Founder: The Life of Aaron Burr by Nancy Isenberg

5.0

I was inspired to read this book after watching Hamilton. Even in Hamilton’s biased telling of history, I was immediately attracted to the tragic character of Aaron Burr. Lo and behold, I read this book only to find out how inspiring, unique, and intellectual Burr was as a military officer and political figure at the time. Instead of a man who couldn’t quite cut it at the upper echelons of politics like his lauded contemporaries, Burr is revealed as a man who was generous, above the fray, and a true political talent that rankled his opponents and quite possibly caused his downfall.

I recommend this book to anyone look for an honest depiction of political history at the birth of the United States. You’d be surprised to find out that our heroes aren’t as heroic as they have been made it out to be while the opposite is proven true for the villains. Everyone should read this book.
