Romantic Comedy
by Curtis Sittenfeld
I was incredibly disappointed with this book. There was way too much information given into setting the scene of TNO, this book’s version of SNL, that wasn’t integral to the story, and barely any character depth or development. The author could have easily cut the first half of this book. Also, it was intensely political (to the point where the main character had unnecessary inner asides that seemed to have nothing to do with anything) and a large chunk of it was set during Covid, which surprised me. Look, I get it, those things were real and happened. But I pick up a romantic comedy to escape reality, not read more of it. I normally would have stopped reading, but I wanted to see the actual relationship since it’s called Romantic Comedy. Ultimately I gave this 2 stars because the banter between Sally and Noah was charming and slightly redeemed the pointless pages and pages it took to get there.
