I am going to start with this with the full disclaimer that I do not normally read science fiction novels. That being said, I really did enjoy Resolution by John Blackport. Rick Revoire is a fascinating character that any reader would be all too willing to follow. Blackport's writing of this historical zombie novel is illustrative with just the right amount of description juxtaposed with dialogue. As a person who loves historical novels, I loved those elements being incorporated into the book alongside the fantasy elements. Besides several battle scenes that showcase the kind of man Rick is on the battlefield, there are a few moments of weakness in love scenes that show the man he can be off of it, and the contrast is remarkable and peels back the layers on this multi-dimensional character. It will be interesting to see how Rick's story proceeds in the next parts of the series.
