Adriana’s final installment in her Las Leonas series finished out with quite a statement. All 3 FMC’s of the series are strong and fierce women, not the least of which being Aurora, a female doctora in an era hugely dominated by men - especially European white men. Apollo is attracted to her from the start, but doesn’t see her as a serious contender as his duchess due to her culture and her history. He uses his wealth to greatly support her cause of reproductive health care, but doesn’t entertain her as a true partner with himself. Until, he realizes that he’s caught feelings to go with the incendiary physicality they share. Eventually he realizes that they can help more people outside of the aristocracy and thus move in ways to widen their influence in the Caribbean through education and midwifery centers. Loved their chemistry and all the history woven into the story. As always, Adriana Herrera gave us a spicy story of love and fierce activism.
