The story itself was interesting and I didn't feel bored or restless during any point - Casey McQuiston can write a plot that'll get you invested. But omg. I did not have to google the author to know this was written by a millennial. I'm sorry, but the characters were meant to be around my age and they did not feel like it, at all. There is such a thing as too quirky.

I didn't really like any of the characters, except maybe the people who work at the restaurant with August. It was clear I was meant to absolutely LOVE the #foundfamily but I didn't like any of them and I would hate to be in their friend group. Most of the characters were really obnoxious lol. Also, why are we 60 pages from the end of the book, where all of the plot points have yet to be tied up, and we're getting play by plays of things that are not integral to the plot?

I was invested and mostly enjoyed reading it but so much about it bugged me, especially the writing. There were moments of gorgeous writing and observations but they were almost always overwritten. Some of them needed to just be left alone. I wanted to say, 'STOP ADDING TO THIS SENTENCE!' Also the dialogue was very... fan-fictiony. A lot of this was fan-fictiony.
