Raising Good Humans: A Mindful Guide to Breaking the Cycle of Reactive Parenting and Raising Kind, Confident Kids by Hunter Clarke-Fields

5.0

Hands-down the best parenting book I've ever read. Unlike other toddler discipline books that teach how to curb the child's behavior, this book is directed at the parent. Subjects discussed include: how a parent's self-care is not only not selfish but is their responsibility; how a parent can work on acknowledging their own triggers from childhood so as not to continue the trauma cycle from previous generations; how mindfulness (defined as intentionally drawing your focus to the present to notice without judgment) is key to being present with your child as well as improving the ability to react with integrity not emotion to stressful situations.

There are exercises, chapter summaries, a lot of parental validation from the author, and sources/research sited so it feels more scientific than woo-woo.

This book goes hand-in-hand with DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) work that is common in a lot of individual therapy. Oh my gosh if you are interested in being the best person (which includes best parent) you can be, read this book.
