Overall this was a powerful book. I struggled with reading this, not only because of the width, but the depth. It was a very dark tale, highlighted occasionally by laughter and joy. It is well written- the only thing that I didn't like about it was the different names of various clothing and foods that I had never heard of. But that's what reading is all about... learning.
