Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

5.0

I’m not being dramatic, I am convinced that this book singlehandedly shaped my book, movie and even video game taste taste solely by itself. Unlike its predecessors, The Prisoner of Azkaban is dark, scary, and sometimes bleak and depressing.

As you may have seen in basically all my updates for this book, I first read the first three books of the series when I was in middle school. However, I owned the Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban Playstation 2 video game before that and that possibly made me obsessed with the book before I even read it. However, that book is seriously scary to a 6 or 7 year old (dementors, anyone?) and I think that video game is what made me realize how fond I am of horror and bleakness in the media I consume and I will always love this book, even though I don’t really have similar nostalgia for any of the other books in the series.
