Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar

5.0

Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar is a fusion of genres – a clever mashup of ‘true’ crime, meta-fiction and serial killer thrillers. The story of a small town rocked by evil in human form and told to us from Richard Chizmar’s unique perspective. The story grabbed my attention immediately, even though the pace of the story upon reflection is quite slow. The story drip feeds you information about the horrors coming but were along for the ride experiencing things as the main character does. There is a lot of backstories, setting and character development which creates an engrossing narrative and adds depth and authenticity to this story. The author blends truth and fiction inserting himself into the story much in the same way Bret Easton Ellis has done with his stories. I liked the photos that were included which added to the feel of the book. Richard Chizmar has crafted a compelling narrative that's not to be missed.
