Kasher in the Rye: The True Tale of a White Boy from Oakland Who Became a Drug Addict, Criminal, Mental Patient, and Then Turned 16 by Moshe Kasher

An insightful and hilarious memoir that I could not put down. I know many people were disappointed by the lack of “resolution” at the end of the book… complaining about how the author did not explain how he managed to get sober/his life together, but I don’t think finding “answers” was the point of this memoir; to me, I felt that the point of this memoir was to come to terms with/make light of a chaotic childhood… a confessional tale about the effects of substance abuse that neither demonizes nor romanticizes drug use.
