This is a great summer read! I love visiting zoos, so a series that follows a family who runs a zoo was a must on my reading list. In a family of siblings all named after birds (!!), the first book of the series follows Lark, a wildlife biologist, and Logan, a guy from New Zealand who is volunteering at the zoo over the summer as a way of going on an adventure to get over his ex-girlfriend.

While Logan and Lark’s chemistry and energy is awesome, my favorite part of their story was them both realizing they can be there for their families during difficult times, while also allowing themselves to find happiness with whoever or wherever that may be. The only person standing in the way of that is themself, and I’m a sucker for journeys like this. It’s something incredibly relatable and a situation everyone goes through at some point in their lives.

I totally was not expecting what happened in the middle third of this book. While it was talked about a ton, I thought maybe it would be the third act climax that forced the characters to realize what they wanted, and it was so nice to get to spend time with them on that journey in the middle of the book. I honestly didn’t think we’d get to see that experience for Lark, and I’m glad I got to read it.
