This book was recommended to me and I am so very glad I finally did get around to reading it. Due to timing I had to speed read it and finish it all in a day before it was due to the library but it was certainly worth it. I loved the setting and the characters had both an iconic quality as well as the more personalized touches that made them singular people. In many ways one could say the book focuses on two friends: one good, one bad but that simplifies each them in a manner that is unnecessary. The book could also be about the growth that occurs when we are thrown extreme change and how we have to learn to meet our fate rather than let time pass us by. Enjoyable and certainly recommended.
