Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch
1.0
Yeah... I made it to 62 pages and said it was time to give up. I read the blurb and thought the premise was sketchy, but I've enjoyed Enoch's books before. And then I found myself reading about unlikeable people who initially tried to lie to steal friends, then poor neighborhood children and were offended by the responses of those individuals. Emmeline had the audacity to judge the Dawkins for the number of children they had, after trying to take 2. Only then did they say let's go to an orphanage. Not to actually adopt the children, but to temporarily borrow them to continue the deception. The premise was so unbelievable and selfish. Now that your family is seeing these children they are never supposed to see them again? What about when it's time for them to enter society, given your supposed prowess as a political hostess- although, given the dinner with the Hendersen's that starts this debacle, I have my doubts. I'm sure as the book continues they resolve the improbability of this and become a family, but the pain of watching these people get to that point, I won't suffer through.
