Homo Deus: A History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari
5.0
Extremely powerful and thoughtful read. I cannot recommend this book enough. Within the first few chapters I became completely enthralled by Harari's objective, yet thoughtful brushstrokes on mankind's current condition and precarious futures. His ability to illustrate how the effects of data and technology are impacting our ancient and outdated social systems, strikes me as somewhat profound. How the rate and quantity of information in the world will surely flood out any one government or groups ability to understand, yet alone manage. That along with the outsourcing of not only our memories (computer storage), skills and jobs (machines), but our very desires themselves. Deeply disturbing it its implications, but that doesn't change the fact that there is a vast sea-change at play here. So much to unpack and ruminate within these pages. Five sincere stars from me and my lack of free will to not give them.
