Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner
2.0
While there were parts of this book I liked, I would say overall it wasn’t for me. The smut was definitely smutting and I liked some of the friendship dynamics. Where it really fell apart for me was the miscommunication. No one in this book had any sort of healthy communication except maybe between Cassie and Acacia (so sorry if her name is spelled wrong I listened to the book), but even then, Acacia knew Parker was aware of Cassie and Erin hooking up and didn’t tell Cassie. Cassie and Erin had zero communication when it came to expressing feelings and it really was frustrating to listen to the two of them have the same thoughts of how much they like each other but could NEVER date.
Also Erin is so unbalanced the entire book. One moment, shes hooking up with Cassie and the next she’s saying Cassie has mommy issues to try and make Cassie stay away. Speaking of, Cassie’s mommy issues (even though they’re only vaguely brought up throughout the book to give Cassie an excuse for being emotionally stunted), make their relationship that much more ethically difficult for me. The age gap doesn’t necessarily bother me that much, but when it’s brought up that the younger person in the relationship has issues specifically with their mother is when it gets weird.
The taboo of hooking up with with your friend’s mom seems very hot and sexy, but then the reality of actually trying to sustain a secret relationship (even though neither of them will admit their relationship) is honestly kind of tedious to read about.
