Daytime Shooting Star, Vol. 2 by Mika Yamamori

4.0

Soooooo, I'm giving this four stars because I love the friendship between Yuyuka and Suzume, but I'm reaaaaaaallly fuckin' uncomfortable about Suzumes teacher being a love interest. Now, I want to make a distinction here: I have nothing against a plot line revolving around a student being in love with their teacher as long as it's made clear that it's inappropriate. I have a HUGE FUCKING PROBLEM with a student being in love with a teacher and that teacher DEVELOPING FEELINGS FOR SAID STUDENT. I don't romanticize that and I don't think I want to continue with a series that has that kind of plot line.

Something else that's nagging at me is that I feel like this series (if I choose to continue reading it) is going to turn into Say I Love You for me where I love the female friendships but not the actual couple. For me, no matter how good the friendships are or the characters in general, a romance's job is for me to root for the main couple. If it can't achieve that, then it ultimately failed its one job and no amount of good friendships or good characters can cover that. If others feel differently, that's fine, but I'm not really interested in reading a romance manga when I don't like the romance.

This is a pretty solid series, objectively speaking, and I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm going to read more or not, but it's got its positives.
