One of my all-time favorite middle grade fantasy books and it absolutely holds up! The relationship between Addie and Meryl captured my heart as a child and never let go. As someone who grew up idolizing his big sister, I've always felt a kinship with Addie that has only grown over the years. The writing is fast-paced but with enough space for you to really feel Addie learning and growing as she takes charge and comes into herself. The romance is sweet but not at all over-bearing--this is the OG Frozen sort of sister story--and Vollys is one of the best dragons in fantasy literature, full-stop. Will certainly read many more times in the future.
