The Devil's Pawn
by Tracie Delaney
One of my favorite tropes of all time is marriage of convenience/arranged marriage. So while I liked the overall premise of this story, I struggled with some of the things that happened. It started off pretty strong where the FMC was hellbent on getting divorced. But after a while, she let up and fell right in line. She should've ignored the MMC, especially after he locked her in their panic room for seven hours. And then he sent her friend back home to the US after one day of her being town. The MMC also injected the FMC with a tracker and birth control without her knowledge. That would've lost my trust in him completely. He had his reasons but then maybe he shouldn't have married the FMC and wanted to sleep with the FMC so badly.
Aside from those things, there were a couple laugh-out-loud scenes with the couple trying to get each other to want a divorce. I really enjoyed those. And the spice? Some of it kinda caught me off guard (just stuff I'm not used to reading) but still good and spicy.
Oh and also, the surprise pregnancy shocked me. I kept reading and thinking it wasn't going to happen but then I was still at like 80% of the book. The MMC did not want children whatsoever- he wouldn't budge on his decision because of his past. Idk how I felt about the pregnancy since the MMC really didn't want to have kids. Some of the trickery in this book, idk how they are still trusting of each other after this.
