I read this on audio. I just realized I dont know how to spell the main character's name! Anyway, she was a little annoying at times. Kind of a cliched female lead in that she had the propensity to kick ass, but often dodnt understand what was going on or complained about having to get out of bed or had tantrums. But I did see her grow somewhat throughout the first book.

She works for the Hawks and basically is a knight for hire with them. When children start getting murdered with the same marks she has covering her arms and legs showing up on the bodies, she is sent to investigate, along with Tiamaris, a dragon in his human form, and Severn, her former best friend from her childhood in the fiefs. (I wantes to like Severn, and thought that her trying to kill him a few times was preposterous. After learning what Severn did to break her trust, I dont know that I can forgive the character, and dont want them to have a relationship - which seems to be where the series is heading.)

There are certainly some interesting action scenes, and the world is pretty well thought out and very well established by the end of the first book. But audiobooks tend to reveal characterization problems more easily for me,and this one does have some character issues - they are all either perfect or super-flawed, to the point of seeming almost like caricatures.

Will I continue reading the series?: Yes, but probably in print so that I see if the characters are more appealing that way. plus i'll learn to spell her name!
