Come to Me Softly by A.L. Jackson
3.0
****3.5 STARS****
I’ve had a hard time decided how many stars to give this book so I decided to split it down the middle. It’s not that I didn’t like this book—it was a good story with strong character development. I just felt like it really dragged at some parts, took a while to develop, and then when things happened it took off like a rocket. I got a little frustrated with a lot of the internal dialogue with both characters. There is only so much “he’s good enough but doesn’t see it/he needs to forgive himself/needs help” and “I hate myself/I’m never good enough/She’s the only light in my life” dialogue I can take before I start skipping big paragraphs. That’s where I ended up with this book. But the redeeming feature was the last two chapters and the epilogue. The epilogue was where I decided this book was worth it. I just wish that the character development would have happened a little sooner and we could have experienced a little more of his road to forgiving himself. It almost felt like he was just better and forgiving freely all the sudden. While I know his character still struggled majorly we never got to see that. I would have liked to see that struggle versus the struggle of admitting he needed help throughout most of the book. Overall, character development drove this story—which was refreshing. It was a solid end for Aly and Jared’s story.
