The Song of Achilles
by Madeline Miller
DID NOT FINISH: 28%
It reads like a fanfiction (and you could argue it really is one), and while I may have enjoyed something like this when I was younger, I can't seem to get into it. I also don't enjoy the way the romance is written between Patroclus and Achilles. While I completely understand the intent of the author being to show their deep intimacy in a way that iterations of the Greek epics did not convey, the puppy love and codependent dynamics just get really repetitive. By the point that I stopped reading, they were still teenagers, but I hear it continues all throughout the book.
All in all, I feel too old to enjoy this book. However, Madeline Miller is still a great author. I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea.
