The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

challenging dark slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Plot
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

2.5

I wasn’t a fan of this one. The plot was decent, but there were too many tangents. And while the tangents may have been intended to provide greater depth to the characters, the tangents were war too long and distracting from the plot and main characters as a whole.

I have read some of Murakami’s later works and found them much better.
