I listened to this on audiobook after seeing the movie a while ago. As always, the book was better than the movie. Crisp details of the marsh. In-depth understanding of Kaya’s upbringing and how it shaped her as an adult and her relationships with others. Hints of cultural commentary around prejudice, racism, domestic violence, and our justice system. Great twist at the end, although somewhat predictable it was still satisfying. Makes me want to watch the movie again!
Graphic: Domestic abuse, Rape, and Alcoholism
Moderate: Bullying and Racism
