Really interesting motive

I read a lot of these types of books but this one was fairly unique. A young girl walks into a police station and confessed to killing a young boy. But why did she do it? Who else is involved? And does it have anything to do with the cult-like church in town. Characters were interesting and believable. While clearly the book deals with violence, it was not overly gory and there was no sex or language I noticed.
