Jews Don't Count
by David Baddiel
Non-fiction. I was recommended this via Facebook by a Jewish friend, and have been meaning to read this text for a while. I flew through the text in about 24 hours, despite disliking, at times, the lack of solid structure (eg. chapters). This made the text feel overwhelming at first, but soon didn’t matter much, as I was absorbed by the writing style. I enjoyed the balance of humour and severity, as well as complicated ideas and basic concepts, which made the text both enjoyable and informative, as well as the short length which made it digestible. I noted to my friend how I feel I have learnt a lot and have a lot to process and think about now, considering how the majority of the content in the text was very new to me, due to a lack of previous knowledge of Jewish culture in Britain. Despite its length, the text packs in a lot of information. As suggested by my friend, the author promptly received a Twitter follow from me. Highly recommend the text and hopefully Baddiel will release more texts like this.
