If Only You by Chloe Liese

3.75 rounded to 4/5 "So sweet you'll get a toothache and that's exactly what I needed" stars

This is a friends-to-lovers book but in the best way. Friends to lovers doesn't always work for me, because I sometimes find it difficult to buy into it when they've always known each other and it took like 15 years for one of them to notice the other. In this book, the two MCs become friends in the book rather than having had a long-standing past friendship. I really liked that and found it effective.

These books are sugary sweet. The near-perfect opposite of a dark romance - just as unrealistic but in a "no real people are this sweet and understanding and well-spoken" way. I will admit that sometimes the corniness is distracting, and in my opinion, you really need to be in the mood for that tone to enjoy it. I recently tried re-reading my favourite Bergman Brothers book, "Always Only You," and I struggled to get through it because the corniness was tripping me up (which did not happen on the first read). But, if you need something that will just make you happy, have VERY little (almost no) conflict and not much plot beyond the relationship development between the two MCs, then this book and the rest of the series really is delightful and will work for you.

This could be read as a standalone but I wouldn't recommend it - they are really meant to be read in order to get the full effect.
