The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

4.0

Overall lovely, but the dynamics between Claire and Henry in terms of their age freak me out a bit. I mean, she's my age in the beginning of the novel, entering a relationship with a man who's pushing thirty. Then there is the whole grooming-esque thing of her as a teenager. Wish the book ended with recounting the interaction in 2053, but it is quite a lovely ending...
[I have very mixed feelings on this. First of all, I had the strongest deja vu the whole time I was reading it (there is a chance I have read this before, actually). However, what was more concerning to me was the character dynamic/relationship that the plot is centered around. While the story is at times sweet and is skillfully written, the age gap and the nature of the childhood meetings just feels morally wrong to me. The notion of waiting and the fact that she spends her life on it is definitely my favorite part and I see why it is a modern classic…but I just can not shake the weirdness off]
