I've been looking forward to being able to read Jez's story but found I was a little disappointed with this book compared to the rest. There is a small winter competition in Adenashire and Jez the fennex finds herself signed up for the competition with her friend Taenya. They pretend to be dating in order to win the crowd's favor, and ultimately it opens each other up to having a real romantic relationship.
It was predictable with no real surprises or twists, and I found the competition to be fairly boring and lacking. While there was a side of Jez working on herself and exploring her past, it was a very minimal sub plot that I wish had been much more explored. Overall this felt like this missed the chance to really delve deep into Jez's mind which was disappointing as one of my favorite characters in this series. And there were multiple typos including using the wrong character name, so it seems it could have done with another round of thorough editing. While I appreciate the author producing continuations of this story quickly, I do think they would benefit from putting more time into editing, revision, and character mapping.
