Daddy Boy by Emerson Whitney

reflective medium-paced

3.0

This book has flashes of beautiful writing and sections that hurt your heart back together again, but it felt like Emerson was feeling so much that the writing didn't grab me. I felt rebuffed by it rather than drawn in. Maybe that was the point, or maybe it just wasn't for me. No chapters style is always harder for me, but also switching tenses, topics and time periods within the same page made for a jarring read. That said, it's also how abandonment feels. That part was very present in the text itself, and maybe that's why it made me sadder to read it rather than feeling more connected to him.
