Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison
5.0
coming on your timeline yet again to rave about another book by Toni Morrison. this book is a kaleidoscope, complex and rich. i tried explaining the premise to my boyfriend to tell him how impactful the ending was, but a synopsis was simply impossible. this book is so layered and it completely shifts expectations on a coming-of-age story despite that being its core. without letting you know who to root for, Morrison takes the reader through multiple characters and their overall demeanor but keeps certain aspects of them masterfully hidden behind a curtain that she pulls back when it matters. even this review simplifies the book and i fear i will never fully be able to convey how incredible her books are, but i cannot wait to finish her canon. easy five stars for the greatest novelist ever.
