TW: THIS BOOK DOES HAS IMAGES OF SEXUAL ABUSE

Now I have been a fan of Moreno-Garcia since [b:Gods of Jade and Shadow|36510722|Gods of Jade and Shadow|Silvia Moreno-Garcia|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1543268579l/36510722._SY75_.jpg|58230232] and so I had to pick up this book! Now I will say that this book is a slow burn, but in all the marketing for this book Moreno-Garcia doesn't say otherwise. I will also say that being a lover of [b:Jane Eyre|10210|Jane Eyre|Charlotte Brontë|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1557343311l/10210._SY75_.jpg|2977639] the author definitely handled the Gothic genre incredibly well. The only thing that I have against it is that it has three or so scenes of sexual assault and while I am a person that says it is not needed unless it drives a point home, this book does just that. The imagery is amazing and the way it is summed in the end it great. It is bittersweet, but from her previous novel Gods of Jade and Shadow she is usually a master at doing just that.

TLDR; Great Gothic novel that takes great inspiration from the Gothic novels of old but if you are a person that likes a faster read, this is not for you.
