A really intriguing book with an exciting world and interesting complex characters. I really enjoyed this book, though the ending for me was a little anticlimactic.
What I liked:
- Strong female characters
- Great representation of different races and sexualities
- There are equal gender roles in this universe and no homophobia
- Cool world building and lore
- The different religions and religious myths was a highlight for me
- Interesting premise
- Ead and Sabran are cute
- Niclays’s story was heartbreaking and beautifully done
- Really well written prose
- I love the opposing types of dragons, the Eastern dragons were so well written. I really felt for Nayimathun and Tané’s relationship
What I didn’t like:
- The ending felt a bit rushed and it was all too easy for a supposedly big threat - the Nameless One died in like 5 seconds!
- I was hoping for an additional reveal or plot twist at the end, it was a little predictable
- The plot overall was just missing something for me
- Too much build up for little pay off, especially for such a huge book
- The lore and plague elements could have gone further
