Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen
4.0

Apparently contemporary YA only gets me anymore if it's super queer? Something about this one really struck a chord with me outside of the romance aspect, however. I remember getting to the latter part of high school and feeling lost and confused - like I hadn't done anything worth mentioning. Unlike Codi, however, I didn't do much to change it. What I loved about Codi's character was that she didn't just flip a switch and decide to change. Her evolution starts with one chance encounter, sure, but still felt natural and more like one coming out of their shell, rather than this drastic 180 spin move that leaves everyone confused and asking "who is that person and what body snatcher got them?" Codi's story is virtually timeless, and Late to the Party is for anyone who's ever felt alone, questioned who they were, or doubted where they were in life.
