Hamlet by William Shakespeare

5.0

“to be or not to be; that is the question.”

WHOOOO boy, this was incredible.

completely understand why people dub it as shakespeare’s best tragedy- id have to agree. (from my very small sample size of… three.)

as i do when reading shakespeare, i watched it along with an adaptation as plays are really meant to be watched, not read, and i really enjoyed the reading of hamlet alongside the 2009 adaptation starring david tennant.

i think my favourite character really has to be horatio. my guy carried everything on his back, and extra points for some queer subtext that i found really interesting- i loved consuming hamlet with those subtle undertones.

ophelia, my poor, poor girl. she immediately seemed to me as such an intelligent woman with a bright future ahead of her, and she gets utterly utterly ruined. her death hurt me the most out of all of them, and her character really resonates with me i think.

i could go on and on and on and on about comedy and tragedy, the role of the gravedigger, the ghost and his role, but i will be here. all day. so i’ll leave it here.

incredible, incredible play. would love to see it in person.
