amandasupak 's review for:
The Immortal King Rao
by Vauhini Vara
3.5 stars
This book has 3 separate timeliness: 1) the humble beginnings of a dalit caste boy in India growing who grows up on coconut farm 2) his adult life when he because this universe's version of Steve Jobs, who makes the coconut computer (rather than apple) 3) a young women who is growing up in the dystopian mega-capitalist world government owned by coconut.
The most interesting stories were from the last 2 , and the first one with him growing up really dragged on. It had waaaaay too many characters to keep up with and the momentum of the book really lagged in those sections.
Also the ending is so wtf, I don't even understand why he ended it that way....
