A Faint Cold Fear by Karin Slaughter
4.0
Although this wasn’t as gripping to me as the first two books in the series, this had everything I like about the author’s writing: an interesting mystery, great characters, and of course, jaw-dropping scenes of violence and gore. Although Lena was super frustrating in this book, I actually liked how we keep dealing with her and her trauma. She’s been through hell, and she’s not fine, and we see her struggling in a way that is uncomfortable for us the readers as well as the other characters around her. I think portraying her in that way is a pretty cool move by Karin Slaughter. I don’t think I’ve seen a character go off the rails like that, dealing with trauma in a way that makes her unlikable. I think that makes Lena a very real and interesting character. Of course I like Sara best though. She’s easy to root for and I love getting to know her more and more throughout these books. Jeffrey I’m still on the fence about but he’s an interesting guy too. I can’t wait to see what’s next for these characters. I’m rambling but one more thing: I enjoy Karin Slaughter’s books because the plot is suspenseful and interesting, but what makes them stand out to me are the characters.
