200 years ago, humans were abandoned by the Fae and left to fend for themselves against the monsters. Theresa humans decided in order to fight the monsters, they would need to become monsters themselves and give up their humanity.
200 years later, Samara has just been betrayed by her husband after three years being together and has decided to go home, get a divorce, and live the life she’s always wanted and finally be happy.
When she returns home, she learns there’s been attacks by wraiths at different random outposts and now Samara and others have to find out why this happening and how to stop it.

I really liked the world in this one! It’s very unique with humans that turned into Fae-like beings and you have some that use blood magic, others are shifters and others use shadow magic. They live in different divisions which are the Moroi, Velesian and Furie. And have their own unique magic, as well as what they are.

I enjoyed the banter at times and there is a found family that is slowly developing. I really liked Samara’s relationship with her best friends. Even though they were different species, they treat each other equally and tell each other everything.

I also liked the premise for the most part. I enjoyed the mystery and searching for what’s causing the attacks at the settlements. This was heavy on the plot rather than on the romance. I think this focused more on learning the characters and the world, which I’m totally fine with. It’s a big world! I liked learning about it and the main characters, especially since I’m sure the romance will increase in the next book.

This is honestly more of a 3.5 ⭐️ read for me mainly because I honestly never connected with any of the characters
