Can I give this more than 5 stars?! I really cannot express how much I loved this book. This is my third Edward Carey book and most definitely my favourite. Edith May Holler pulls us into her own world of the theatre and it is one that is magically dark. One that is filled with bugs, dolls, murder, mourning and ghosts. In Edith’s own words it is ‘wonderful! And Dreadful! All at once.’ I have never read a modern book with such a compelling historical voice. I think everyone should read this and venture through the realms of life and death contained within the Holler theatre through the eyes of Edith, a most talented playwright.
