In this penultimate volume, all the Dreadgods are now awake at the same time and even worse they are conscious and intelligent and bent on avenging themselves on the Monarchs who have hurt them in the past.

Lindon has now become aware of the connection between the Dreadgods and the Monarchs and must now find a way to advance himself and his team to a level where they can make the Monarchs ascend from Cradle and kill the Dreadgods before either decides to kill him.

The Abidan Judges meanwhile having detained Eithan pass sentence on him for his actions, all while the Mad King searches for ways to defeat them and overthrow their rule.

Again, this is just a non-stop action, where the stakes are the fate of worlds, but where there are split loyalties and more than one point of view between the various factions.
