A very cute and emotional read. I loved Emma's strength and independence. Due to his trauma, the Duke is very insensitive and judgemental towards her. He's really grumpy, and Emma doesn't do anything to warrant his actions. I got tired of it. Their banter is really good, and there is a lot of mutual pining that adds to the romantic tension between them. The scenes with the cat, Breeches, were really funny, but some of the other side plot things didn't really add much to the story. Not a perfect read for me, but I still recommend it. It has a little bit of a Beauty and the Beast feel to it. I wouldn't call it a retelling, but I think there's some inspiration behind a few scenes that fans will recognize.
