The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

4.0

I went into this expecting a mystery and thriller and I got exactly what I was promised.

I've seen people praise things like the plot twist (which I will not spoil), but I genuinely liked the mystery. It's a unique mystery that I would have enjoyed without the plot twist.

I like how, as we learn more about Alicia in the months and days before the murder, we see that she is incredibly flawed and it does a great job at humanizing her and her trauma.

There isn't much I can say about other characters without giving away anything, but I like how they take advantage of the fact that everyone has secrets and see what they want to see. Especially with regards to Alicia. We see that her cousin sees a different side of her than her friend and her brother in law. It's great because it allows the reader to try and put the puzzle together and figure out who is right.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a good mystery and thriller because I thought it was great and would have given it the same rating without the plot twist.
