I loved this!
Reading a dragon novel that wasn’t set in Western Europe added a different dynamic and tone to the story. I enjoyed the characters, especially Elara and Faron’s loyalty to one another. I also really liked the magic systems, with the focus on familial ties being so important to the magic of San Irie. I wish we had more time to learn about the Langley magics, but I feel that they will develop more as the story continues.
The only thing I wanted more time with was the character relationships. Because the author needed to keep the pace up and plot moving forward, there were time jumps that made us miss out on opportunities to feel the characters grow in their care for each other. This didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the novel, personally, but is more a wish that it had been longer!
Overall, I recommend this amazing debut novel, and I look forward to the next book!
