MY REVIEW

FBRC REVIEW :

I went into this book completely blind. I am grateful for that. I don't think I would have loved it if I had some unrealistic expectations. The book was an amazing debut and a promising start to a trilogy. I absolutely adored the story, the setting, and the characters. The story was well written with the world-building and the magic system complimenting it so well. The book is so gothic and dark and twisted it will keep you engaged and entertained. I loved how the story started off with a bang and proceeded to give us all the excitement throughout the story. The twists and turns kept me hanging.

I loved the world it was set in and how the stark differences in their geography, culture, religious systems led to political upheaval and enmity between two nations. The idea of good and evil and the religious debates and the ideological differences make it such an enjoyable experience. We get to see their struggles, conflicting emotions and as a reader, I was right along with the characters.

My favorite character is Malachiasz who reminded me a bit of Ackley and Colbert combined from The Knights Of The Realm series. I loved how layered and multi-faceted his character was. Nadya reminded me of Reid from The Knights Of The Realm series where she is the one who is sent out for a mission and that is her life goal, but she gets pushed and pulled in to different situations where she has minimum control of the outcome. The lies, manipulations and the political upheaval, assassination attempts all just added more layers to the story. I can't wait to read Ruthless Gods after this and I need to know how things will progress and where the story will take us. Hopefully, we get to see the reasoning behind the final scenes and get to know the motivations for it.

Definitely recommend this book. And make sure you go in blind with no preconceived notions on how things will be. Trust me on this.
