Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show by Bethany Joy Lenz
emotional
reflective
sad
This book made me so sad. Joy was looking for a sense of belonging, community and faith. She was taken advantage of and felt like no one supported her. It’s heartbreaking because all she wanted was that family presence and to feel like she was apart of something real. I’m glad it worked out for her. It makes me sick to think of the gross humans who betrayed her, preyed on her and used her faith in god against her. Joy made it easy to understand how one could be guided into this and how no one starts out thinking about joining a cult.
Graphic: Emotional abuse, Gaslighting, and Toxic friendship
Moderate: Cursing and Violence
Minor: Racial slurs, Sexual assault, and Pregnancy
