Speaking of Summer by Kalisha Buckhanon

3.0

This strolled along, seeming like a literary fiction book focused on how black women are ignored by the cops and media, when BOOM. Suddenly it turned into something very different, with a twist out of a thriller. I was not expecting it at all, but looking back there were hints. This turned into a look at mental health and accepting help. It was very good, but there was something holding me back from going from liking it to really liking it. It keeps you at a distance, which makes sense considering, but it kept me from being totally absorbed in the story.
