Countdown by Deborah Wiles

Have you ever had a kid ask for a historical fiction book about the Cuban Missile Crisis? Then this is the book for you!

Seriously, this book does have some cool stuff. I like that there is so many pages showing the actual ads and pictures from the time period, especially when they say a character looks like Miss America from Missouri and then show Miss America's picture from that year.

There was also a lot of teachable material in here. If I was teaching social studies to 5-6th grade, this book would be an awesome tie-in. I learned about the time period and wasn't even mad that I was reading history, because it was such a good read. That Deborah Wiles, she knows how to write a story.
