Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

4.0

Overall, I liked the book. The ending was quick-paced , much unlike the rest of the book however which I felt was a bit unnecessarily elongated. We got to see every single part of Oliver's story and I suppose everyone being related in the end is pretty fictional but it's more about what it means than rather what it is.
I found the start quite clunky (first 30 pages). Dicken's writing style is a bit difficult to get one's head around but you generally get into the swing of things after a while.
I have rated it 3 stars though because it didn't speak to me necessarily like some of the other books I've rated higher, it just did not stand out in many ways. It does have its memorable scenes of course , like all books. The main question : Was it worth the time I spent on it?
I would answer with 69% belief in Yes - if I had not read it before, I would read it upon the knowledge that it's "Oliver Twist" by "Charles Dickens" but now after having read it , would I read it again? No or not for a quite a long while , it's not quite as tempting to pick up again and doesn't really draw upon the same emotions as some other books

And also to be fair to the rating I've given it and to justify it, some characters didn't draw me in emotionally that well - when reading about Mr beadle towards the middle and his argument with his new wife , I found it interesting but not gripping and found myself wishing the story would divert back to Oliver but I have to give it to Dickens , it was a great way to build suspense of the circumstances of Oliver but kind of bored me out rather than keep me on the edge of my seat.

One thing I suppose that I, and anyone who reads this, should keep in mind is that at the end of the book, I was relieved to have finished it rather than have that feeling of regret that I've finished it and really want for it to carry on. I guess I will update this review if that feeling comes over me in the following days. However, for now I am relieved to have finished it for it was , an absolute time consumer . If someone could attention seek for time , it would be Oliver Twist , the book - not the character, he's too lovely for that.

Overall, I like the story idea but not how long it took me to read it or the way in which it was written.
