For a book about people who spend their lives writing and reading erotica in Victorian London, there was surprisingly little erotica in this book. So it felt like a let down in the steamy bits department. Other than that the story was serviceable and the characters were fine. The most interesting part was the stuff about the publishing industry and the laws regarding writing and owning erotica in England at the time. It was incorporated into the story rather than being like a lecture. If it is true it was very enlightening (I will have to look it up sometime).

It didn't make me swoon, but it was entertaining. I'm not running out to read the next in the series, but if it happens to fall into my lap, I will probably pick it up.
