American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis

Genuinely one of the most bizarre and unpleasant reading experiences of my life – won't rate this because I don't know how. I actually like Bret Easton Ellis's writing a lot and I'm sure this is a great novel and is savage and cutting and genius and whatever all the positive reviews say. Patrick Bateman is objectively a fascinating character and the way Ellis is able to communicate a mood of such abject misery and emptiness is honestly impressive. Beyond that, though, it is hard for me to lend this book a shred of critical thought because it was so profoundly disturbing and upsetting. Nothing else to say. Need to go read something happy now.
