King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
4.0
I can't believe that ending -- I feel kind of relieved I waited to read this until the sequel released.
I loved this. I was ambivalent going in because, while I loved Six of Crows, I didn't really enjoy the Grisha trilogy but Bardugo's writing has improved so much since then and I actually loved diving back into this world.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel, particularly the political maneuverings and watching Nikolai and co. learning to run a country as they go. There were some elements/twists introduced that I didn't particularly enjoy because they didn't really feel earned, but as a whole I still really enjoyed this and can't wait to read Rule of Wolves.
